Planetary Companions

All of the planets resonate so completely with another object that Intrepid software allows for inclusion of these companion objects in all charts. Most of the companions are satellites of their respective planets. As with all facets of SELF-EVIDENT ASTROLOGY™, the identification of the planetary companions followed the physical evidence.

The symbol for each companion is a doubled image of the planet glyph. For example, the image to the left is for Ganymede, the planetary companion for Jupiter. The glyph incorporates two Jupiter symbols into one.In this way the symbol itself reflects the exact nature of the companion.

The companions multiply the meaning of the planet directly. They indicate another point in any chart that resonates with the associated planet, and provides a reference point for that planet’s energy, much as the earth provides the reference point for Sun, Moon and planets in a birth chart.

Ralph Nader and Charon

Anyone alive today in the United States, and perhaps around the world, has felt the direct impact of Ralph Nader’s body of work. Graduated from Harvard with a Law degree, he determined his life course by taking a stand for the consumer in several venues, notably automobile safety (see his book Unsafe at Any Speed), the creation of OSHA, and his political career as an independent and Green Party candidate.

The chart included here shows the position of Charon conjunct the Scorpio Midheaven. Pluto, ruler of the Midheaven, is found in the Sixth House of work. The position of Pluto speaks to the powerful message Nader brought to American law and consumer affairs. The placement of Charon at the Midheaven indicates that not only did Nader invest his time and energy in his work, but he brought multiple powers together in ways that had not been seen in the world before his campaigns.

Charon provides a reference point for Pluto's power and will. Nader has devoted his life to consumer issues and has been very public about his beliefs, another quality of the Midheaven in the birth chart.

The value of the planetary companions in delineation of birth charts, progressions, and other applications is that the companions show where each planet’s energy may be focused for the most potent effect. Nader’s Charon certainly reflects the fact that his career was more about transformation of existing systems than about law, although his legal training gave him the resources he needed to be extremely successful.
