Kings, Queens, Knights and Knaves

The Court cards – The Kings, Queens, Knights, and Pages or Knaves, represent humanity. They reflect the twelve zodiac signs in the King, Queen, and Knave.

According to the Church of Light, the Knights represent thoughts or hidden intelligences. I think of them as cards that represent messages when they appear in readings. Sometimes they are near another card that tells from whom the thought is coming.

The King of Wands is an Aries person or a person who displays strong Aries tendencies like independence, ambition, courage, and great energy. This person focuses on who he or she is, and is probably highly intuitive.

The King of Coins is sometimes said to relate to Gemini, but I think he more naturally relates to Taurus, and earth (material) sign. This person is sober, practical, and persistent in action.

The King of Swords represents, in my opinion, a Gemini person. He or she can be intelligent, restless, volatile, and even a bit fickle. Think of a butterfly flitting from flower to flower, never settling for long, until he or she has had time to develop a deeper sense of what relationships mean.

The King of Cups represents the sign of Cancer. This king is relatively mild-mannered and reserved. He or she loves home and family and pleasant surroundings.

The queens represent the middle four signs of the zodiac. Reversed, they represent a male instead of a female. These mature, thoughtful ladies reflect all that we expect from adult people with mature outlooks.

The Queen of Wands represents the sign of Leo. In her is a place where energy initiated by others can grow. This lady is very regal, almost too regal in her demeanor. High-spirited, she is also resolute, even stubborn in her decisions and actions.

The Queen of Coins represents the sign of Virgo. She is competent, analytical, and studious. Generally even-tempered, she can be witty, although there is an edge to her humor.

The Queen of Swords represents the sign of Libra. This person is noble and amiable at the same time. He or she most often looks for the good qualities in others and may patiently wait for those qualities to manifest.

The Queen of Cups represents the sign of Scorpio. Emotionally intense, this individual can seem selfish and resentful. By the same token, this person makes a loyal and determined friend who sticks by you when the chips are down.

The Knight of Wands represents thoughts or messages about business. When this card appears, you are likely to hear some promising news concerning work or other activities in your life.

In nature the Knight of Wands represents flashes of lightning that correspond to intuitive flashes of insight.

The Knight of Coins, appropriately enough, brings messages or thoughts concerning money or other material matters. When this card appears, you can expect to hear about financial or other material matters, including health issues.

In nature the Knight of Coins represents the mountains.

The Knight of Swords represents thoughts or messages concerning intellectual battles you may be fighting. The message may come from a lawyer, doctor, or someone whose opinion you value.

In nature the Knight of Swords represents Wind.

The Knight of Cups represents thoughts or messages concerning affection or romance. For example, you may receive an invitation for a romantic dinner or tryst, or you may hear about difficulties in the romantic department of life.

In nature, the Knight of Cups represents rain and natural springs.

The knaves (pages) represent the last four signs of the zodiac. Reversed, they represent a female instead of a male. These less mature, more impulsive individuals reflect all that we expect from children or teenagers, and they also reflect what we can brighten our lives with when we act joyously and freely.

The Knave or Page of Wands represents the sign of Sagittarius. This person is often younger, displaying qualities of joviality and interested in sports. When this card appears, you can count on someone to bring a generous attitude into your life, along with some temperamental energy.

The Knave or Page of Coins represents the sign of Capricorn. This person is practical, subtle, and interested in money and material things. With this card you can expect an individual who can seem alternately sneaky and obvious as an open book.

The Knave or Page of Swords represents the sign of Aquarius. Often a younger person or someone who seems younger than his or her years, this person is alternately argumentative and agreeable. Humanitarian interests are part of his or her persona, and he or she may display interest in the arts.

The Knave or Page of Coins represents the sign of Pisces. Shy and timid, particularly in youth, this individual has profound psychic insight into the people and situations in the immediate environment. Focused on the present for the most part, he or she is susceptible to emotional or psychic influence.
